Small Watercolor Paintings

Here is another small (5" x 7") watercolor paintings. I love bluebirds - there is a foster holly tree outside my studio window. They wait until the berries are just right and they come in by the droves and clean all the berries off. Bluebirds are pretty skiddish so it's hard to get good photo's. This painting is already sold to my friend Marsha in Texas.

Getting ready for the Golden Retriever National Specialty

The golden retriever national specialty begins next week 9/26/11 in Conyers, Georgia at the International Horse park. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of old friends and making new ones. The Art Expressions by Carolyn booth will be set up on Monday and we'll be there until sometime late on Saturday. I hope to get lots of golden photos for new work. Here is a sample of some of the paintings I will have with me.

The Zebra

As an addition to the Safari Theme, "The Zebra" is added. The is soft pastel - 18" x 12". Not too sure about doing any more of the zebras - those strips were killers :) Actually I enjoyed the challenge of the strips.

Golden Retriever National Dog Show

Getting paintings ready for the Golden Retriever National Dog Show in Conyers, Ga the last week in Sept. Our booth will be there with all the golden paintings and other breeds as well. I've been asked to bring along some of the flower paintings too.

Sept 10, 11, 12 I painted with friends for the International paint out. We put our easels up beside the Toccoa River at Horseshoe Bend park. There are so many places to paint it was hard to pick a spot. On Sunday, we went to the Mineral Bluff, GA old depot. Great Weekend.

I had taken the photo for this pastel painting sometime last year in Hendersonville, NC - the development had such beautiful forest looking yards with their houses set back. I love the way the light came shining thru the trees, touching the leaves and giving them a glow.

With all the snow we've gotten this winter, I had to paint snow and since I love animals, of course they are included.

The Canine Trio

Just finished this commission of 3 beautiful dogs - Tex, Lilly and Buford. I worked from several photos taken by the owner which were wonderful.
Tex blends somewhat into the background but with total different color dogs, it was difficult to find a color that was compatible. The color is richer and more gold than it shows here.

Just delivered "Azalea Light" watercolor painting to the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild show in Blue Ridge, GA. Open reception for the show in Saturday Oct 17 when the awards will be announced.
Azalea Light was also chosen to be in the Georgia Watercolor show in Moultrie GA back in the early summer.

"Billy Goat" Wins 3rd Place Award

The "Billy Goat" won a 3rd place award at the Appalachian Pastel Society member show Oct 2nd at Black Mountain, NC. The goat was just painted for fun, but had received several very favorable comments so I decided to enter him in a juried show along with the golden "Summer Snooze". Both were accepted into the show but was plesantly surprised to find out we won an award.

Plein Air painting

I spent 2 days plein air painting last weekend. Thanks to the generosity of a farm owner, we were invited to paint their horse farm. A barn, stable and chicken coop, provided buildings to paint. Beautiful landscapes were found in any direction. The painting above was done the 1st day. "Hickory at MacCarthy's Farm" had some help in painting by the horses. Several horses wanted to help and sure provided some laughs with their antics.

Two Golden Retriever paintings

"Among the Cattails" the golden working on her retrieving or just having fun! She swims so effortless with her eye on the target of the bird.
